His watercolours of mountains and river scenery anticipated the art of landscape painting. He was a German painter, printmaker and theorist from Nuremberg. This artistic shift seems to have corresponded to a growing interest in the natural world sparked by the Renaissance.Īlbrecht Durer’s (1471-1528) watercolour landscapes are some of the earliest recordings of the northern Renaissance world.
